Cursed by Marissa Meyer (Gilded book 2)

SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t read the first book in the series, Gilded, Stop! I don’t want to ruin the story for you.

“Be still now, and I will tell you a tale.

Adalheid Castle is in chaos.

Following a shocking turn of events, Serilda finds herself ensnared in a deadly game of make-believe with the Erlking, who is determined to propel her deeper into the castle’s lies. Meanwhile, Serilda is determined to work with Gild to help him solve the mystery of his forgotten name and past.

But soon it becomes clear that the Erlking doesn’t only want to use Serilda to bring back his one true love. He also seeks vengeance against the seven gods who have long trapped the Dark Ones behind the veil. If the Erlking succeeds, it could change the mortal realm forever.

Can Serilda find a way to use her storytelling gifts for good—once and for all? And can Serilda and Gild break the spells that tether their spirits to the castle before the Endless Moon finds them truly cursed?” - taken from Goodreads.

A quick recap of where our story left off. Be warned for potential spoilers! Serilda is pregnant with Gild’s child but she is the only one who knows the truth. The Erlking has married her as part of his great plan and will be passing off her child as his own. As the moon phases countdown to Serilda’s due date, can she and Gild stop the Erlking, keep their child safe and discover Gild’s true name all while breaking their curses?

A long but satisfying ending to this duology.

These Twisted Bonds by Lexi Ryan (These Hollow Vows book 2)

SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t read the first book in the series, These Hollow Vows, Stop! I don’t want to ruin the story for you.

“Brie finds herself caught between two princes and two destinies while the future of the fae realm hangs in the balance.

After Abriella's sister was sold to the fae, she thought life couldn't get any worse. But when she suddenly finds herself caught in a web of lies of her own making - loving two princes and trusting neither - things are not quite as clear as she once thought.

As civil war wages in the Court of Darkness, Brie finds herself unable to choose a side. How can she know where she stands when she doesn't even know herself anymore? In this darkly romantic thrill ride, the more Faerie is torn apart from the inside, the clearer it becomes that prophecies don't lie and Brie has a role to play in the fate of this magical realm - whether she likes it or not.” - taken from Goodreads.

This book was the conclusion to Brie’s journey to fae and the deception that she found there. With never a dull moment and a few surprises thrown in along the way, fand of the series will be satisfied with the ending.

If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

“High school senior Cameron Bright’s reputation can be summed up in one word: bitch. It’s no surprise she’s queen bee at her private L.A. high school—she’s beautiful, talented, and notorious for her cutting and brutal honesty. So when she puts her foot in her mouth in front of her crush, Andrew, she fears she may have lost him for good.

In an attempt to win him over, Cameron resolves to “tame” herself, much like Katherine in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. First, she’ll have to make amends with those she’s wronged, which leads her to Brendan, the guy she labeled with an unfortunate nickname back in the sixth grade. At first, Brendan isn’t all that receptive to Cameron’s ploy. But slowly, he warms up to her when they connect over the computer game he’s developing. Now if only Andrew would notice…

But the closer Cameron gets to Brendan, the more she sees he appreciates her personality—honesty and all—and wonders if she’s compromising who she is for the guy she doesn’t even want.” - taken from Goodreads.

When I came to enjoy about this book was Cameron Bright's journey of self-acceptance and her attempts to right past wrongs. Loosely based on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, Cameron gets the idea to “tame” her personality to win over a boy. In working through her list of amends, Cameron makes new friends and soon realizes that what she thought her future would bring is not what she expected.
